About ACTIONr
ACTIONr is an innovative EU-funded project designed to enhance nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) in agricultural ecosystems by addressing the challenges of reactive nitrogen loss. Initiated under the HORIZON-WIDERA-2021-ACCESS-03 funding scheme, ACTIONr brings together the expertise of the University of Thessaly (UTH), École Centrale de Lyon (ECL), and the University of Vienna (UNIVIE). The collaboration focuses on developing novel tools and strategies to mitigate environmental impacts stemming from excessive nitrate and N-oxide losses in agriculture, a critical concern as these losses can account for up to 70% of applied nitrogen fertilizers.
The project aims to leverage the specialized knowledge of its partners in microbial ecology and ecogenomics to support research initiatives that improve NUE and foster sustainable agricultural practices. Through training workshops, science communication seminars, and outreach activities, ACTIONr is dedicated to enhancing research capacity and promoting interdisciplinary collaboration. By positioning Thessaly as a pivotal research hub, ACTIONr seeks to contribute significantly to efficient nitrogen management and the reduction of the agricultural sector's environmental footprint.
