Active8 is a Cornish charity that has been empowering and motivating young people with physical disabilities since 1990. It was founded by Liz Olive, a social worker from the Cornwall Council's Disabled Children team, in response to a young man's request to meet other young people facing similar challenges. The organization initially started a residential program of 24 weekends over 2 years, where young people got the opportunity to try a range of exciting activities such as surfing, sailing, abseiling, wheelchair football, basketball, arts, crafts, and music events.

After the program, it became clear that many young people still needed support in various areas like employment, independent living, and social inclusion. Active8 has not only helped young people achieve their goals but has also supported them in participating in activities like the ParaAthletics, cookery classes at Rick Steins, theatre trips, and visits to exhibitions. Additionally, they have worked with organizations to improve accessibility.

Over the years, Active8 has had a significant impact on the lives of young people, helping them become more independent, pursue higher education, and realize their dreams. They also provide support to parent carers and facilitate communication between young people and their parents.
