ACVZ

The Advisory Committee on Migration Affairs (ACVZ) is an independent Dutch advisory body that supports the government and parliament on migration, immigration law, and migration policy. Established under the Aliens Act 2000, it operates as a permanent advisory committee under the Framework Act on Advisory Bodies. The ACVZ issues advice both when requested and on its own initiative, examining how existing rules work and how policy might develop.

Its work includes policy advice assessing whether migration laws and policies meet their objectives, how effectively and practically they can be implemented, and where improvements or alternative approaches may be needed. The committee also reviews proposed amendments to the Aliens Act 2000 and the Aliens Decree 2000, analysing their potential effects and recommending changes where appropriate. Its legislative advice is made public when related proposals are submitted to parliament or regulations are published. Each year, the ACVZ sets out its planned research and advisory priorities in a work programme, focusing on current developments, implementation challenges, and opportunities to improve Dutch migration policy.
