Diabetesalava

Adalava, the Association of Diabetes of Álava, is a community organisation supporting people with diabetes and their families. Founded in 1981, it works to improve quality of life through information, diabetes education, personal support and advocacy for the rights of people living with the condition. The association provides a welcoming place to learn, find guidance and connect with others who understand the challenges of diabetes.

Its services include practical educational workshops, psychological support, peer support groups and access to nutrition consultations at a reduced price through a collaboration with nutritionist Leire Plazaola. For primary-school children with diabetes, families can request association monitors for school outings. Adalava also offers support related to diabetic foot care through agreements with podiatry clinics.

The organisation hosts talks, workshops, meetings, camps and other activities, including excursions and sessions on tools for everyday life with type 1 diabetes. It also shares information through publications, newsletters and webinars.
