Adisco Apuania OdV is a volunteer association serving the provinces of Massa and Carrara as a local section of the Italian Association of Umbilical Cord Blood Donors (ADISCO). Founded in April 2003, it promotes the donation of umbilical cord blood, which contains hematopoietic stem cells and may support research and help patients, including children with leukemia. The association provides information about cord blood donation and explains different options, including allogeneic donation, dedicated donation and autologous storage.
Its website also offers guidance on how to donate, answers to frequently asked questions and educational resources for families and healthcare professionals. Adisco Apuania supports training and awareness initiatives at the Ospedale Apuane (NOA) in Massa. Its activities include courses on cord blood collection and related clinical responsibilities, as well as contributions to neonatal care, such as donating a simulator for emergency training.
Based at the hospital, the organization shares news and practical information to encourage informed participation in cord blood donation and advance its mission of supporting research and saving lives
