The Animal Demography Unit (ADU) was a prominent research institution that focused on wildlife studies and conservation efforts. While the ADU no longer exists, its legacy lives on through various projects now managed by The FitzPatrick Institute of African Ornithology. The ADU's work encompassed a range of projects such as CAR, CWAC, SABAP2, SAFRING, and the Virtual Museum, which provided valuable insights into the biodiversity of African species.
Although discontinued, projects like BIRP and My Bird Patch were once integral to the ADU's research. The ADU also delved into specific species accounts through platforms like ADDO and FrogMAP. Today, the Biodiversity and Development Institute (BDI) carries on some of the ADU's essential work, ensuring that its scientific contributions continue to benefit wildlife conservation efforts
