Sveriges advokatsamfund

The Swedish Bar Association (Sveriges advokatsamfund) is the professional organization for Sweden’s lawyers, known as advocates. It safeguards the profession’s standards and emphasizes the advocate’s duty to protect clients with loyalty and integrity. Only people admitted to the Association may use the title “advocate,” which represents a commitment to independence, confidentiality, freedom from conflicts of interest, and client loyalty.

The Association serves people seeking legal representation, practicing advocates, aspiring advocates, law-firm staff, and journalists. Its resources include guidance on finding and hiring an advocate, information about professional standards and oversight, and services for members and law firms. Through Advokatakademien, it offers professional education, including preparation for the bar examination and continuing education courses. It also maintains a legal library of nearly 55,000 volumes, publishes the legal journal Advokaten, and provides templates and negotiated framework agreements for AI services. The Association organizes events and seminars, publishes news and legal commentary, and represents professional concerns in discussions about the rule of law, courts, and access to justice.
