Aegean Dogs

Aegean Dogs e. V. is a Berlin-based animal welfare association supporting dogs and cats in need on the Greek island of Aegina. Working with the island’s animal shelter and local animal welfare volunteers, the association helps care for animals that cannot safely survive on the streets, including those affected by age, illness, injury, or disability. Its work supports the shelter, which has capacity for around 100 dogs and often operates at or beyond that limit.

Aegean Dogs helps find suitable homes for shelter animals and shares information about dogs and cats available for adoption. The shelter’s on-site clinic enables sterilisation, while free-roaming animals may receive food, health checks, and veterinary treatment when needed. The association also helps meet veterinary costs and supports the care of older, chronically ill, or shy dogs that are harder to place.

People can contribute through donations, practical help, supplies, or sponsorships, and experienced adopters are encouraged to consider dogs with additional needs. Members visit the shelter regularly to check on the animals’ welfare.
