The African Economic History Network (AEHN) is a collaborative initiative dedicated to promoting research, communication, and teaching among scholars focused on the economic history of sub-Saharan Africa, spanning from pre-colonial times to the present. Founded in 2011 with support from the Swedish Riksbanken, the AEHN plays a vital role in enhancing understanding of Africa's economic transformations.

The network organizes an annual conference, with the next event scheduled for October 2025 at the National University of Lesotho, focusing on "Disruptions and Resilience in African Economic Transformations." Along with opportunities for networking and research dissemination, AEHN publishes a series of working papers that explore significant historical issues, including colonial impacts and economic disparities.

Additionally, the AEHN provides an open-access textbook titled "The History of African Development," a newsletter, and a blog that features thought-provoking insights on African economic history. These resources aim to engage scholars and foster a deeper understanding of sub-Saharan Africa's developmental trajectory.
