AfA Barnsley

Action for Autism Barnsley (AfAB) is a small charity based in Barnsley town centre, supporting adults aged 18 and over who identify as neurodiverse. It provides a welcoming, inclusive community where members can meet people with similar life experiences, build friendships and take part in weekly sessions.

AfAB’s sessions offer a range of interesting and enjoyable activities, with opportunities to socialise, try new things and spend time in a supportive, low-pressure environment. Members say that attending can bring structure to the week, ease loneliness and help them feel accepted. The group also provides a space where people can be themselves without feeling they need to mask, while developing confidence and communication skills.

Sessions are free, and no formal referral is required. AfAB invites prospective members or people enquiring on someone else’s behalf to get in touch for an informal conversation before attending. This gives the team a chance to answer questions and help identify which sessions may be the best fit.
