Health Equity Matters is the national federation for Australia’s leading HIV organisations, providing leadership, policy expertise, health promotion, coordination and support. Its work aims to shape effective responses for affected communities and advance virtual elimination of HIV transmission. In Australia, the organisation collaborates with members and communities on culturally sensitive initiatives for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and culturally and linguistically diverse communities. It also supports HIV workforce development through HIV Online Learning Australia, a joint program with NAPWHA, and shares practical information on HIV, mpox, prevention, testing and living with HIV.
Internationally, Health Equity Matters has supported civil society responses to HIV, health and human rights in the Indo-Pacific since the early 1990s. Its programs strengthen sustainable, community-led responses and HIV services for key populations, including work in Papua New Guinea, Fiji and several Southeast Asian countries. The organisation also develops resources, reports and policy submissions, contributes to national HIV priorities, and administers the World AIDS Day Parliamentary Breakfast.
