Africa Day Aotearoa is a New Zealand celebration of African culture, unity and diversity, bringing African communities and the wider public together to share heritage and build connections. The event honours Africa Day, which commemorates the founding of the Organisation of African Unity in 1963, and highlights the cultures and traditions of the continentโs 54 nations.
Its programme offers live music and performances, including traditional drumming, Afrobeats and dance, alongside African food, fashion and art. Visitors can explore cultural workshops in activities such as crafts, language, storytelling and drumming, while children enjoy a dedicated zone with games and educational experiences. A community village connects guests with African groups and diaspora organisations in Aotearoa.
For 2026, the celebration also features The Sum of Our African Parts, a multimedia exhibition of film, garments, paintings, sculptures and mixed-media works, with artist-led workshops. Africa Day Aotearoa welcomes attendees, performers, vendors, volunteers and community groups to participate.
