Established in 2018, Africa Nature Investors (ANI) Foundation was founded by African professionals committed to bringing best-practice nature conservation to West Africa. We aim to catalyse the participation of African opinion leaders in conservation and to demonstrate that private sector investment in protected areas can enable them to become engines for development locally and nationally. In November 2017, ANI signed a Partnership Agreement with the National Park Service to protect and develop Gashaka Gumti National Park. This innovative agreement also established a framework for private sector investment into enterprises to support the protection of the park. ANI signed a second 30-year Partnership Agreement with NPS for the protection and development of Okomu National Park in May 2022. ANI also has a strategic partnership with the Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) to engage the Nigerian government to reform national policy to tackle the illegal Wildlife Trade. ANI and EIA trains Nigerian Government agencies on legal framework and policy ii relation to the Illegal Wildlife Trade. We are also developing new endangered species legislation for Nigeria at the request of the Federal Ministry of Environment.

About Africa Nature Investors
ANI Foundation is an African-led initiative committed to bringing best-practice nature conservation to Africa. They aim to be a catalyst for co-investment and know-how from credible international conservation organizations in Africa. ANI Foundation also works to build partnerships to help negotiate the local political context and provide necessary financial and logistical support.
They believe in demonstrating sustainability by showing that targeted private sector investments can pay their way and be a source of pride for Africans. ANI Foundation involves Africans in conservation and long-term investments aimed at positive impact, including eco-tourism initiatives. The founding members of ANI Foundation include Phillip Ihenacho, who is actively involved in African business investments, and Junaid Dikko, who has experience in the petroleum and telecoms sectors.
Tunde Morakinyo, a tropical forest conservation specialist, and Brig General Olajide Laleye (Rtd), a retired military officer, are also founding members. ANI Foundation has support from various organizations such as Azura Power, Ford Foundation, and Tusk Trust, and works with partners like Chester Zoo and Nigerian Conservation Foundation. They are actively involved in projects like the revitalization of Gashaka Gumti Park.
