About The Coalition for an Effective African Court
The African Court Coalition is a prominent non-governmental organization aimed at promoting an effective and independent African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights. Established in May 2003 during a significant conference in Niamey, Niger, the Coalition is a diverse membership-based entity comprising civil society organizations, independent human rights institutions, and individuals dedicated to advancing human rights across the continent. Registered in Tanzania since 2007, its secretariat is located in Arusha, where the African Court is also based.
The Coalition's mission focuses on mobilizing stakeholders to enhance the court's effectiveness and independence, with a vision of a recognized institution serving the peoples and states of Africa. Key objectives include advocating for the full ratification of the African Court Protocol and promoting direct access for individuals and NGOs to the court. Through various initiatives, partnerships, and resources, the African Court Coalition strives to uphold human rights standards and empower citizens across Africa.
