About African Exchanges Linkage Project
The African Exchanges Linkage Project (AELP) is an innovative initiative by the African Securities Exchanges Association (ASEA) and the African Development Bank (AfDB). Its main objective is to facilitate cross-border trading of securities in Africa and improve the depth and liquidity of Africa's capital markets. AELP aims to create linkages between seven African capital markets representing more than 90% of Africa's market capitalization.
In its second phase, the project will expand to include additional exchanges. AELP offers a technology platform called AELP Link, enabling cross-border securities trading and order-routing between stockbrokers on participating exchanges. The project also promotes the African Listed Securities asset class, develops capacity between exchanges, and encourages collaboration between capital market regulators, central banks, and central depositories.
With its focus on fostering investment flows and creating new products and securities, AELP is driving economic growth and recovery in Africa
