The academy has been enrolling students since 2008, with a 5% admittance rate from a diverse pool of almost 35,000 applicants representing 46 African countries. ALA provides financial assistance to 97% of its students.

The brand showcases the inspiring stories of its alumni, such as Kenesa Huluka from Ethiopia, who created a delivery service for his community using USSD codes, and Nour Darragi from Tunisia, who uses art as a tool for problem-solving. Other notable alumni include Mukudzeiishe Madzivire from Zimbabwe, an accomplished writer, and Abdulrasaq Amolegbe from Nigeria, an entrepreneur working on a cashless digital experience for immigrant students.
