Aboriginal Family Support Services (AFSS) is a community-based and community-controlled organization dedicated to supporting Aboriginal communities in South Australia. With a history spanning 40 years, AFSS ensures that all services are innovative, creative, and healing-based, acknowledging the diversity of Aboriginal communities. AFSS plays a crucial role in advocating for Aboriginal children and families, particularly in matters relating to child protection.

Prior to its establishment, Aboriginal children were often removed from their families without consultation or consent. As a Gazetted organization, AFSS ensures that the Aboriginal Child Placement Principle is upheld, emphasizing the importance of culture, country, and connection for all Aboriginal people. With over 245 dedicated staff across 22 locations, AFSS offers a range of core services, including Family Based Foster Care, family reunification services (Stronger Families), and region-specific programs.

The organization's focus is on maintaining Aboriginal children's cultural links and reuniting families whenever possible. Visit AFSS's regional offices for more information about the diverse services available or to obtain a copy of the organization's constitution and rules
