AgCAREERSTART is an Australian agriculture career program that helps young people begin working in the farming industry while supporting the development of the future agricultural workforce. Designed for people aged 18 to 25, the program offers a full-time paid farm placement, training and development, industry connections, and support from a dedicated team. Applicants can express preferences for farm type and location, and AgCAREERSTART matches participants with placements suited to their interests and skills. Participants also receive a $3,000 Training and Engagement Bursary to build their skills and can take part in industry events and connect with peers across Australia.
The program also works with farmers interested in becoming host farms. AgCAREERSTART helps identify suitable applicants and supports host businesses throughout the 10-to-12-month on-farm placement. Hosting gives farmers access to a new labour market while offering a young person practical experience and career support. The program is funded by the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, in partnership with AgriFutures Australia, the Grains Research & Development Corporation and Pinata Farms.
