Agencja Nasienna is a Polish organisation representing plant breeders and supporting the legal protection of plant varieties. Established in Leszno in 2003 by seven Polish agricultural plant-breeding companies, it has since expanded to include 33 breeding businesses or companies owned by breeders. Its work focuses on helping breeders protect their exclusive rights while providing farmers and other seed-sector participants with practical information about relevant rules.
The organisation facilitates settlements with breeders when farmers sow seed saved from their harvest under the agricultural derogation, and collects and verifies information about its use. It also monitors licensees producing certified seed and processors preparing harvested material for sowing. Agencja Nasienna works to identify infringements of breeders’ exclusive rights, particularly the illegal trade of seed for sowing, and promotes education about variety protection and lawful seed use.
