A.G.I.L. (Apoyo Global para Iniciativas Locales) is an association supporting community-led development in rural areas of El Salvador and Nicaragua. Working with local organisations FUSANMIDJ and INHIJAMBIA, it focuses on children, adolescents and women facing poverty, violence and other forms of vulnerability. Its programmes include school scholarships funded by sponsors, helping children progress from basic education through high school and, where possible, university. The association also supports women’s and children’s participation in community development and advocacy for access to essential services.
In rural communities, A.G.I.L.’s initiatives address health, nutrition and sustainable livelihoods through first-aid supplies, community gardens, medicinal plants, clean-water projects, wells and water distribution systems. It also supports small productive projects for women’s cooperatives. In Nicaragua, its work with INHIJAMBIA promotes children’s and adolescents’ rights, including support for young people at risk of substance abuse or sexual abuse. A.G.I.L. invites people to contribute through scholarships and donations, membership, volunteering and solidarity markets. It reports that donations are transferred directly to active projects, apart from bank-transfer costs.
