The Agricultural Model Intercomparison and Improvement Project (AgMIP) is an international research initiative focused on improving agricultural models and the scientific and technological capabilities used to assess how climate variability, climate change, and other forces affect agriculture, food security, and poverty. Its work spans local to global scales and brings together researchers and partner institutions through more than 30 teams and regional initiatives across the Americas and Caribbean, Africa and Europe, and Asia and Australasia.
AgMIP organizes its work around three pillars: advancing knowledge, data, and tools; coordinating global and regional assessments; and modeling sustainable farming systems. Its research uses multi-model, multi-scale, multidisciplinary approaches to explore adaptation, mitigation, food policy, and food security under uncertainty. The project develops and shares practical research resources, including publications, software, data and tools, assessment protocols, reports, briefs, videos, and the Impacts Explorer. It also supports collaboration through research teams, workshops, and community initiatives. Based at Columbia University’s Climate School Center for Climate Systems Research, AgMIP connects scientific findings with efforts to understand agricultural risks and support more informed decisions about sustainable food and farming systems.
