About Agroecology Fund
The Agroecology Fund is a multi-donor fund that supports just and sustainable food systems. Their mission is to promote the wellbeing and human rights of small farmers, Indigenous Peoples, and their communities, as well as replenish soil and water resources and help mitigate climate change. They use a unique participatory philanthropic model, guided by international advisors and partners embedded in civil society networks, to connect effective practitioners, scientists, and movement builders worldwide with the resources they need to transform global food systems.
Since its launch in 2012, the fund has grown significantly, now comprising over 40 active funders committed to advancing agroecology and leveraging additional funding. They have awarded a combined total of $20 million through 370 grants in 88 countries from 2012-2023. The Agroecology Fund envisions robust rural and urban communities by 2050 that offer dignity and livelihoods for all food producers, conserve biodiversity and the earthβs ecosystems, and celebrate local cuisines.
They strive for regenerative and restorative economies, supported by governments and financial institutions, that prioritize human rights and nature protections. Their ultimate goal is to establish agroecology as the model for food systems, leaving behind industrial agriculture in the history books
