Aguas Amazónicas is a brand that represents the largest freshwater system in the world. Comprising nearly 30 organizations from Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, the United States, France, and Peru, this alliance aims to maintain the integrity and connectivity of the aquatic ecosystems in the Amazon Basin. Established in 2023 through the merger of the Citizen Science Network for the Amazon and the Aguas Amazónicas Initiative, our existence is a result of years of collaboration and dedication to understanding and conserving the Amazon's aquatic ecosystems.
Our mission is to coordinate science-based actions to influence public policies and promote socio-environmental responsibility strategies in the private sector. We strive to conserve the connectivity of the Amazon Basin's aquatic ecosystems and address threats to these ecosystems, particularly those requiring collective action at multiple scales, including transboundary basins. We offer a unique opportunity for collaboration among indigenous and civil society organizations, government entities, universities and research centers, the private sector, and multilateral organizations to achieve lasting large-scale results.
