AHAHIST

Arbeiderbevegelsens historielag i Akershus (AHA) is a historical association founded in 1987 to preserve and document the history of the labour movement and the communities of Akershus. Guided by the belief that understanding the past can help shape the future, it collects and shares stories, records and experiences from the region’s social and political history.

AHA makes this history accessible through its magazine and yearbooks, archival resources, public meetings, lectures and cultural events. Its programme explores subjects including workers’ lives, labour history, politics, welfare and social housing. The association also organises study tours to places of historical and cultural interest, and holds annual meetings for members and supporters.

Community events are an important part of its work, often combining talks and political discussion with music, performances and workers’ songs. AHA also awards the Labour Movement’s Cultural Prize in recognition of contributions to culture. Through publications, events and educational activities, the association encourages public engagement with the history and continuing influence of the labour movement in Akershus.
