Ahead Moldova

Ahead Moldova is a small, independent organization working to improve the lives of young children with disabilities and their families in Moldova, described on its website as one of Europe’s poorest countries. Founded in 2000, Ahead focuses on early intervention and family-based support, aiming to help prevent children from being separated from their families and placed in institutions. Its work combines practical, professional healthcare support with efforts to encourage inclusion and change attitudes toward disability.

Ahead works with families alongside its Moldovan partner, Voinicel, whose Competence Center provides support for children and parents. The organization reports that around 1,700 families have received professional health support through Ahead and Voinicel over the past 15 years. Beyond direct assistance, Ahead highlights the importance of helping parents build loving relationships with their children and replacing shame and isolation with confidence and belonging. As a small organization, it says it can concentrate on the quality of support for young children with disabilities and their families.
