Aho Creative is a New Zealand creative studio making contemporary taonga and homewares inspired by Māori design and the indigenous identity of Aotearoa. Its name, meaning “cord,” “string” or “line” in Te Reo Māori, reflects the connections between genealogy, people, culture and place that inform the brand’s work. Aho brings art together with form and function, creating pieces that share stories and express whakapapa in everyday settings.
The collections include ceramic taonga such as bowls, moon-phase designs and pendants; textiles including muslin pēpi wraps; and homewares and decor. Other offerings include made-to-order Rimu boards, Pou Whenua garden pieces, art prints, paper cuts, decals and window films featuring Māori-inspired motifs. The studio describes its approach as kaupapa Māori-driven and places sustainability, ethical sourcing and traceability at the heart of its practice. It works with sustainable, ethically sourced, organic and natural fibres, and collaborates with a fair-trade team in India. Aho Creative seeks to honour the relationships between materials, their origins, communities and environments, with a commitment to future generations.
