Alaska Health Project South Sudan is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit working to improve health and food security in South Sudan. Since 2008, the organization has focused primarily on Fangak County, supporting communities through clean-water access, agriculture, sanitation, and medical services. Its work includes drilling wells, developing small family farms, and constructing two medical clinics.
The organization reports that it has completed 113 wells and works with more than 1,000 small farms, over half of which are led by women. Its agriculture program provides seeds, seedlings, and tools to help families grow food, and supports food for 2,456 children. These efforts respond to severe food insecurity and the effects of repeated flooding and displacement.
Alaska Health Project South Sudan also invites supporters to sponsor a well, donate to its water and agriculture programs, join its mailing list, volunteer, or attend fundraising events. A developing community garden project combines food production with clean-water access: plans include a water tower, irrigation for a four-acre garden, and public water taps.
