The Associazione Italiana Carlo Urbani (AICU) is an Italian Third Sector organization established in 2003 to continue the humanitarian work of physician Carlo Urbani, who identified SARS and died after contracting the disease. Guided by his commitment to health access and solidarity, AICU supports healthcare training, humanitarian missions, and initiatives for young people and schools.
Its programs include scholarships and awards in Carlo Urbani’s name for healthcare professionals, researchers, students, and other participants. The Carlo Urbani Award supports young health professionals, including through opportunities connected with tropical medicine and health cooperation. AICU also organizes a school journalism competition that encourages students to engage with Urbani’s values and work.
The association promotes awareness through educational activities and the Carlo Urbani Museum, which presents his life and work using photographs, video, documents, and interactive materials. Supporters can contribute through donations, Italy’s five-per-thousand tax designation, legacies, and solidarity favors. Based in Castelplanio, AICU works to advance health, education, and humanitarian cooperation in Carlo Urbani’s memory.
