About Aider
Aider is a powerful coding assistant that uses GPT technology right in your terminal. It offers a range of features and services to enhance your coding experience. One of the main advantages of using Aider is its integration with Git.
By leveraging Git, Aider ensures the safety of your code by allowing you to review and undo changes made by GPT. It asks for permission to add files to the Git repository and offers to commit changes before sending requests to GPT. Aider also provides in-chat commands to quickly compare or undo the last change made by GPT.
Although it is recommended to use Aider with Git, you have the option to disable Git integration if desired. Just keep in mind to maintain backups of your files. Aider supports all of OpenAI's chat models, with the GPT-4 models delivering the best results.
These models have larger context windows, better coding skills, and can follow instructions more reliably. GPT-3. 5, albeit more experimental, is still supported and suitable for smaller codebases.
While Aider primarily supports GPT-3. 5 and GPT-4, it also offers experimental support for other language models (LLMs). However, official support for new LLMs requires significant effort to tailor prompts and editing backends.
Aider provides features for experimenting with other models, but none have proven as capable as GPT-3. 5 and GPT-4 so far. Ongoing discussions are taking place in the Aider Discord regarding LLM integrations.
With Aider, you can have an efficient and intuitive coding experience, making your development tasks easier and faster
