About The African Institute of International Law
The African Institute of International Law is a unique institution dedicated to capacity building and the dissemination of international law in Africa. It also focuses on the law of the African Union and the promotion of the rule of law on the African continent. The establishment of AIIL was initiated by His Excellency Judge Abdulqawi Ahmed Yusuf in collaboration with the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania.
It was endorsed by the Assembly of Heads of States and Governments of the African Union. The United Nations General Assembly also welcomed its creation and encouraged cooperation with the Institute. AIIL offers specialized training, teaching, and advanced research in international law, the law of the African Union, and other African regional organizations.
It also functions as a legal think tank, addressing international legal issues related to economic and political integration, as well as peaceful dispute settlement in Africa. The Institute aims to enhance the capacity of associated faculties of law in African universities by strengthening their research facilities and teaching capabilities in international law. It also provides the opportunity to complete AIIL Certified Courses, gaining international recognition and access to global leaders in the field.
With its location near the iconic Kilimanjaro, the African Institute of International Law ensures the highest standards of education and research in international law
