AIIMS Mangalagiri is a part of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, a group of autonomous public medical institutes that have been declared as Institute of National Importance by an Act of Parliament. Established under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY), AIIMS Mangalagiri aims to provide quality tertiary level healthcare and self-sufficiency in medical education and training. Located in Guntur District, Andhra Pradesh, AIIMS Mangalagiri initially started functioning from a temporary campus at Government Siddhartha Medical College in Vijayawada.

However, in March 2019, OPD services were launched in the permanent campus at Mangalagiri. The institute has gradually moved into its designated campus with the construction of new facilities. During the COVID-19 pandemic, AIIMS Mangalagiri implemented various initiatives such as eParamarsh for doorstep sample collection and limited IPD services for COVID-19 positive patients.

The mission of AIIMS Mangalagiri revolves around education, research, and patient care. The institute aims to develop a high standard of medical education, provide training facilities for personnel in health activities, and achieve self-sufficiency in post-graduate medical education.
