Aikido

Otautahi Aikido is a premier martial arts club located in Christchurch, New Zealand, specializing in the Buikukai style of Aikido, a dynamic and effective form founded by Morihei Ueshiba. Established in 1991, the club is dedicated to providing a safe and respectful training environment, emphasizing techniques that promote harmony and the well-being of all practitioners. Aikido is unique for its philosophy of blending with and redirecting an attacker's momentum rather than opposing force directly, allowing practitioners to use minimal physical strength.

Under the guidance of head instructor Junichi Nishimura Shihan, a 7th Dan practitioner and direct student of Hirokazu Kobayashi Shihan, Otautahi Aikido offers a range of classes, including children's programs and various adult sessions focused on fundamental techniques, grading, and weapon training. Reflecting a rich tradition and a commitment to community, Otautahi Aikido continues to grow, welcoming individuals of all ages and abilities to explore the art of Aikido in its beautiful dojo located in St Mary's Church Hall, Heathcote.
