Aiki Kai Australia is a not-for-profit organisation that supports the study and practice of Aikido across Australia. The association is recognised by the International Aikido Federation and has direct links to Hombu Dojo in Japan. Its Canberra offering provides traditional Aikido training at a dojo in Lyons, located at the Scout Hall.
Classes welcome students of different experience levels, with instruction ranging from introductory to advanced training. The dojo is led by Hanan Janiv Shihan, a seventh-dan instructor, and its mixed-ability classes allow students to train together. Aikido develops both mental and physical skills through techniques based on self-defence movements; the organisation describes self-defence ability as a secondary outcome rather than the main purpose of practice.
Prospective students are invited to observe a class and speak with the instructor or senior students before beginning. Aiki Kai Australia also regularly runs courses for beginners and provides information about training, contact details, instructors, events and Aikido heritage
