Aikido Alkmaar

Aikido Yuishinkai Alkmaar is a local aikido association offering training in Aikido Yuishinkai, a style based on the aikido developed by Morihei Ueshiba and shaped by his student Koretoshi Maruyama. Known as “natural aikido,” its approach combines martial techniques with attention to health, Ki, coordination of mind and body, centering, meditation and breathing. Training aims to develop harmony with oneself, other people and the surrounding environment.

Students practise techniques with bare hands and traditional wooden weapons, including the sword, staff and knife. Instruction progresses through three stages: kotai, focused on static practice; juntai, on flowing movement; and ryutai, on dynamic movement. Exercises are clearly explained so participants can understand both how and why they are practised. The association also includes Aiki Kids in its program and provides information about trial classes, fees, schedules and examinations. It works closely with a related dojo in Hoogwoud, where private aikido lessons are also available. Its teaching emphasizes a safe, supportive environment and the development of a positive mindset through practice.
