About AILA
The International Association of Applied Linguistics (AILA) is a dynamic global federation established in 1964, bringing together over 8,000 members who are researchers, policymakers, and practitioners dedicated to the field of Applied Linguistics. AILA's mission is to address practical language and communication challenges through interdisciplinary research. It focuses on critical issues such as language acquisition, literacy, language disorders, multilingualism, and language policy.
AILA facilitates knowledge exchange and international cooperation through various means, including a triennial world congress, the establishment of Research Networks, and the publication of scholarly resources like journals and book series. The organization actively supports applied linguistics, especially in developing countries, by offering Solidarity Awards that enable academics from these regions to participate in international events. Additionally, AILA promotes language pluralism and endorses relevant policies aimed at enhancing language awareness among decision-makers. Through its initiatives, AILA continues to advance the field and foster academic collaboration worldwide.
