Air Sports

Air Sports is a Newcastle, Australia-based hang gliding and paragliding organisation offering supervised introductions to free-flight. Established in 2002, it is owned and directed by Tony Barton, an experienced pilot and instructor whose career includes national championship titles, six years on the U.S. World Hang Gliding Team, and a team victory at the 1993 World Championships. The organisation’s focus is on making the sport both safe and exciting, whether visitors want a first taste of flight or aim to learn to fly solo.

Air Sports offers tandem hang gliding and paragliding flights, giving guests the chance to experience Newcastle’s coastline, city and surrounding landscapes alongside an advanced, certified tandem instructor. Tandem hang gliding flights last approximately 20 to 30 minutes, and an in-flight video is available to capture the experience. Flights use a range of local sites, from coastal ridges to the inland mountains of Watagan National Forest. For those ready to progress, the organisation runs scheduled hang gliding and paragliding courses, with additional thermal, cross-country and tow clinics listed as forthcoming. Air Sports invites visitors to contact the Newcastle team for flight rates and course information.
