About B Aird Gallery
John B. Aird Gallery is a renowned contemporary art gallery located in Toronto, Canada. Established in 1975 as the Macdonald Block Gallery, it was reopened in 1985 as an independent not-for-profit organization with the support of Canada's esteemed art societies.
The gallery is named in honor of John B. Aird, the 23rd Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, who played a significant role in promoting arts and culture. As one of Toronto's few remaining public art galleries, the John B.
Aird Gallery has been showcasing contemporary art for over 30 years. It serves as a vibrant hub for artists and art enthusiasts, offering a platform for artistic expression, public dialogue, and lifelong learning. The gallery takes pride in its dedication to supporting artists from diverse backgrounds and disciplines, ensuring that visual culture is realized, explored, and appreciated by all.
The John B. Aird Gallery collaborates with Canada's legacy art societies, including the Ontario Society of Artists, the Sculptors Society of Canada, and the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour, providing exhibition space for their members. Currently located at Artscape 906 Queen West, the John B. Aird Gallery will return to its original location in the Macdonald Block once renovations are completed. Led by Director and Curator Carla Garnet, the gallery showcases contemporary artworks that challenge conventions and encourage dialogue.
The board of directors, composed of volunteers from the community and representatives from renowned art societies, ensures the gallery's strategic direction. With its commitment to promoting visual art, facilitating dialogue, and offering educational opportunities, the John B.
