The Aberdeen Regional Airport (ABR) and Jackson Hole Airport (JAC) exemplify the resourcefulness of small airports in the northern U.S. tasked with efficient snow removal. Despite operating with limited budgets compared to major hubs like Chicago O'Hare, both airports have invested strategically in multifunction snow equipment to enhance their winter operations.

ABR, with about 69,000 annual operations, utilizes two MB5 multifunction machines, which were acquired through a combination of FAA grants and local funding. These machines allow for rapid snow removal, reducing runway clearing time from 25 to just seven minutes. Meanwhile, JAC, located in a ski destination, has upgraded its fleet by adding towable sweepers to existing Oshkosh plow vehicles, ensuring their 6,300-foot main runway remains accessible even with heavy snowfall.
