As an official legal entity of the Government of The Bahamas, The Airport Authority came into operation on May 1st, 2000, and by year 2007 entered into an agreement with the Nassau Airport Development Company Limited (NAD) to build, operate and maintain the Lynden Pindling International Airport. In 2016 The Airport Authority established its Family Island Airport Department to facilitate operations through management of the family island airports.

About The Airport Authority
The Airport Authority is a governmental organization that has been operating since May 1st, 2000, under the Airport Authority Act. It is an official legal entity of the Government of The Bahamas. The Authority is responsible for the management and operation of various airports, including the Lynden Pindling International Airport and the Grand Bahama International Airport.
Under the direction of its Chairperson and a Board of seven Directors, the Airport Authority ensures the safety and efficiency of airport facilities for users and operators. With a team of approximately 700 personnel, the Authority also works in collaboration with stakeholders to fulfill its mission of providing safe and reliable airport services. In 2007, the Authority entered into an agreement with the Nassau Airport Development Company Limited (NAD) to construct, operate, and maintain the Lynden Pindling International Airport.
It also acquired the Grand Bahama International Airport and manages it through its subsidiary, Freeport Airport Development Company (FAD).
