Club Ajedrez Magic Extremadura

Club de Ajedrez Magic Extremadura is a chess club based in Mérida, Badajoz, Spain. Describing itself as one of Spain’s most successful chess clubs, it has won the Spanish Chess Championship four times and is also presented as the only Spanish team to have won the European championship. The club brings together competitive chess, chess education, and social and therapeutic applications of the game.

Its services include in-person and online chess schools, training, tournaments, championships, simultaneous exhibitions, workshops, talks, and conferences. The club also provides activities for schools and runs social and therapeutic chess programs. Its ECAM method uses chessboards and pieces to stimulate or rehabilitate cognitive functions; some exercises can be used without prior chess knowledge. The method is adapted for groups including older adults and people with disabilities, addiction, Parkinson’s, mental health conditions, or acquired brain injury, as well as people with high abilities.

Based in Extremadura, the club works with a team of national and international trainers and shares news, educational resources, and information about its sporting and community initiatives.
