Akaflieg Hamburg

Akademische Fliegergruppe Hamburg e.V. is a gliding club based at Neu Gülze airfield in northern Germany. The club combines recreational flying with pilot training, welcoming newcomers as well as experienced glider pilots. Its approved flight school trains beginners through to glider-pilot qualification, with instruction and club operations organised on a voluntary basis to make learning to fly more affordable.

The club offers introductory gliding courses, including an annual Pentecost training camp for people interested in trying the sport. Participants can experience flying, learn how the airfield operates and take initial steps toward pilot training; no prior experience is required, though participants must meet the stated age and fitness requirements. Training takes place in two-seat gliders, including the Twin Astir and Janus B, while scenic flights are available with experienced pilots. Visitors interested in flying are also welcome to enquire about joining flights.

Members operate a fleet of gliders and maintain the equipment needed for launching, including a powerful winch.
