Akaflieg Köln

Akaflieg Köln e.V. is a nonprofit gliding club dedicated to sharing the experience of soaring flight and making pilot training accessible to people interested in the sport. Its community has around 30 members, including both licensed pilots and people working toward their qualifications. Each flying season, members introduce beginners and more experienced trainees to the techniques and tactics of gliding.

From April through October, the club operates every Saturday at Dahlemer Binz airfield in the Eifel, about 70 kilometres from Cologne. Its fleet supports training, continued practice and aircraft development. New students fly from their first lesson in an SF34 training glider. More advanced trainees and licensed pilots can use two LS4 single-seat gliders. The club also owns and develops the LS11, a two-seat prototype with wing flaps. Licensed pilots are responsible for flying it, while students also take part in its testing.

Akaflieg Köln welcomes newcomers, licensed pilots and people at every stage in between who would like to participate in club gliding and training.
