The Alabama Symphony Orchestra (ASO) is a nonprofit professional orchestra founded in 1921 and based in Alabama. With more than a century of service, it is the state’s only full-time professional symphony orchestra. Its musicians, selected through competitive auditions, live and work in Alabama, sharing orchestral music with communities across the state.
The ASO presents a season of concerts, with single tickets, subscriptions, group experiences, discounts, and venue information available to audiences. Its programming includes performances in concert halls and community settings, as well as more than seven free concerts each year in places such as parks, breweries, and botanical gardens.
Education is central to the orchestra’s work. Programs reach students in 44 Alabama counties and include school field trips, youth orchestra opportunities, virtual performances, teaching resources, and the Lois Pickard Concerto Competition. The organization also offers ways to support and participate in its work, including donations, volunteering, and the ASO Chorus.
