om Ålands fågelskyddsförening

Ålands fågelskyddsförening r.f. is an association dedicated to bird conservation and ornithology in the Åland Islands. Its work supports ornithological research, encourages interest in birds, and contributes to their protection. The association operates two bird stations, at Lågskär and Signilskär, where information is collected on Åland’s bird populations, migrating species and individuals, and birds ringed while stopping over.

For members and the wider public, the association arranges seasonal activities including guided walks, day trips and shared birdwatching events. It also offers guided tours for groups, individuals and businesses, both on mainland Åland and in the archipelago, with boat transport arranged in cooperation with Shipland boat taxi when needed. Other activities include bird surveys commissioned by the City of Mariehamn and the regional government, winter bird counts, and participation in Finland’s bird atlas work recording breeding birds.

The association welcomes beginners as well as experienced birdwatchers. Its activities are supported by government grants, membership fees and funding for specific projects, including satellite tagging of female eiders at Lågskär.
