AL-ANON

Al-Anon Slovakia is a fellowship for relatives and friends affected by another person’s drinking. Its groups bring together people who share their experiences, strength, and hope while addressing the effects of alcoholism on family life. The organization explains that alcoholism affects the whole family and that changing attitudes can support recovery. Al-Anon is independent of religious, political, and other institutions, does not take positions in outside disputes, and has no mandatory fees; its activities are supported by voluntary contributions from members.

The fellowship offers Al-Anon meetings across Slovakia, as well as online meetings, and provides information to help newcomers understand how the groups work and find a meeting. Members can also access Alateen meetings, intended for young people affected by someone else’s drinking, along with literature, a magazine, and a forum. Resources introduce the Twelve Steps, Twelve Traditions, and other principles, and explain how to start a new Al-Anon group. Meetings are peer-led, not therapy, and emphasize anonymity and confidentiality.
