Alaska Beacon is an independent and nonpartisan news organization that aims to connect Alaskans to their state government. In an era where state news coverage has declined, Alaska Beacon strives to reverse this trend and keep Alaskans informed. Our name is inspired by the Alaska Flag Song, which describes the North Star as a guiding light.

Just like that beacon, our journalists report fairly and fearlessly on the people and interests that shape state policy. We are not affiliated with any political party or private interest, and we support every Alaskan's right to participate in the political process. Our reporting focuses on various areas such as the economy, environment, education, health, and criminal and social justice.

We are dedicated to telling untold stories, providing fresh perspectives, and amplifying the voices of marginalized Alaska communities. Through internships, we also aim to train aspiring journalists. Additionally, we offer a platform for commentary on state issues, with the goal of fostering meaningful policy conversations.

We rely solely on the donations of those who value independent journalism to carry out our work. Other news organizations are welcome to republish our content, provided they credit us. Join us in our mission to keep Alaska informed and engaged
