About Albatross
The Royal Albatross Centre, located in Dunedin, New Zealand, offers visitors a unique opportunity to witness the majesty of the Northern Royal Albatross. As the only mainland breeding colony in the world, this is a truly extraordinary experience. From the exclusive 'Royal Box' observatory, guests can watch Dunedin's famous Royals up close, with their impressive three-meter wingspans.
The knowledgeable guides provide fascinating insights into the breeding cycle and behavior of these magnificent birds. Additionally, visitors can explore the underground tunnel system of Fort Taiaroa, which was originally built in the late 1880s and later used for training and defense during World Wars I and II. The Royal Albatross Centre is operated by the Otago Peninsula Trust, New Zealand's first private charitable conservation trust, and a portion of every ticket sold goes directly toward the protection and fostering of the Northern Royal Albatross.
