About Alberta Canola
Founded in 1989, the Alberta Canola Producers Commission is the province's first refundable checkoff producer organization. With a mission to support the long-term success of canola farmers in Alberta, Alberta Canola focuses on research, extension, consumer engagement, and advocacy. Although they do not regulate or participate in the production, buying, or selling of canola, the Commission plays a crucial role in representing over 14,000 canola farmers in Alberta on provincial, national, and international policy matters.
Alberta Canola is funded by a refundable $1. 00 per tonne service charge paid by canola farmers in Alberta. The organization operates with a Board of Directors representing all 12 regions of Alberta, guided by five committees.
Additionally, Alberta Canola collaborates with other provincial grower organizations and is a member of both the Canola Council of Canada and the Canadian Canola Growers Association. Through direct representation to parliamentarians, legislators, and government officials, Alberta Canola advocates for the interests of canola farmers.
