Alberta Symphony

The Alberta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) is a professional orchestra based in Edmonton, Alberta, and describes itself as Alberta and Canada’s first touring orchestra. Its work brings live symphonic concerts and classical music performances to towns and cities where access to orchestral music may be limited. The orchestra aims to advance public appreciation of the arts through high-quality performances across Alberta and beyond, while integrating classical music into young people’s lives and connecting with new generations.

Led by Music Director and concert pianist Emilio De Mercato, the ASO presents orchestral performances and special musical programs, including VERDI-SSIMO. Its activities also include touring and events designed to make classical music more accessible to communities. The Alberta Symphony Orchestra Society presents performances and supports the orchestra’s public-facing work. In 2025, it presented De Mercato’s Carnegie Hall recital debut at Weill Recital Hall, featuring works by Liszt, Schumann, and Mussorgsky.
