Aleksis Kiven Seura is a Finnish cultural society dedicated to the life, work, and continuing significance of writer Aleksis Kivi. Through events, publications, and public programs, the association encourages interest in Kivi’s literature and its place in Finnish cultural life. Its activities include annual celebrations around Aleksis Kivi Day, talks and lectures, excursions, and programs connected with works such as Seven Brothers and The Heath Cobblers.
The society also presents the Eskon puumerkki recognition, awarded annually since 1975 to someone whose persistence and determination recall Esko, a character in Kivi’s play The Heath Cobblers. The society has also organized competitions for students and demonstrations and educational content about kurranlyönti, a traditional Finnish game.
